The stress and anxiety caused by the words "Breast Cancer" are all consuming and can tip you over the edge. I was so lucky to be treated by Miss Gahir and her team at North Middlesex Hospital. The compassion, care and above all the professionalism shown was remarkable. I have had 2 procedures carried out by Miss Gahir and can honestly say that upon waking from the operations I had very little pain, so little in fact I did not take one of the pain relief medication supplied! Miss Gahir is a really lovely person who listens to you, but also imparts information in a way that is easy to understand. Anyone reading this can feel that they are in the safest and most skilful hands.

I had excellent care by Miss Gahir, from consultation to surgery. She 's understanding, compassionate, caring and always listened to what I had to say. I was always involved in my care and was clearly informed throughout my treatment, of what was to be done and what I was to expect. Miss Gahir is a very skilful surgeon, I did not experience any pain when I woke up, and scarring was minimal. My overall experience was great, and if ever I need another surgical procedure in future, Miss Gahir would be my first choice of surgeon.

Since meeting Miss Gahir my life has changed immensely. She has inspired me to the point that after 5 years I could contemplate breast reconstruction. My confidence in my body have grown and I am looking forward to the future. Miss Gahir have gained my trust over a period of time, and definitely knows what she is doing as a consultant. I find her to be helpful with a caring nature and takes her time to listen to your opinion and what you have to say, taking on board your concerns. I could not wish for a better consultant and one that I respect a lot.

Based on her reputation and the knowledge and expertise she demonstrated during our meetings, I felt Miss Gahir was someone I could trust and I was not disappointed. She did three procedures for me, one within the NHS and two privately, and I can honestly say that she was no different in either setting in that my welfare as her patient was paramount. While her approach is evidence based, she was always prepared to adapt to me as an individual, engaging in a dialogue that meant I felt wholly involved in the decision making. However, the bottom line is her surgical skill; when I awoke, I felt little pain, had the tiniest of scars (which can now barely be seen) and, incredibly, showed minimal external signs of the wide local excision she had carried out. I am very grateful both to her and to the team with whom she works. I would finally add, that if you are a worrier or, like me, you happen to be blessed with a panicky partner or similar, then in my experience her calm and compassionate authority is hugely reassuring. I had absolutely no doubt that she was prepared to do all she could to achieve as good an outcome for me as possible and that she was fully aware of the whole range of factors which go into providing great care.
